Is Your Child Ready for Kinder? A Victorian Readiness Checklist

Kinder readiness isn't about reading or writing. It's a handful of social and self-help skills that help your child enjoy the day.
Self-help
- Toileting independently (or close to it for 3YO).
- Putting on shoes, washing hands, opening their own lunchbox snacks.
- Drinking from an open cup.
Social
- Separating from a carer without major distress.
- Playing alongside other children, and beginning to share.
- Following a simple routine.
Language & attention
- Following two-step instructions.
- Sitting for a short group story.
- Expressing wants in words (or signs/gestures).
If you're not quite there
That's normal. Our educators bridge the gap — especially children continuing from long day care. See how that looks in our 3YO vs 4YO Kinder guide.
